I am honored to assume the role of President of the Massachusetts Reinsurance Bar Association ("MReBA") for the annual term beginning April 30, 2015. I would like to acknowledge the great work of my predecessor, outgoing President Mitchell King, in expanding the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization, as well as increasing the exposure of MReBA in the reinsurance community. Under Mitch's leadership, we had several great events this past year, including the Spring 2014 Cocktail Reception with guest speaker Senator Anthony W. Petruccelli, then Co-Chair of the Legislature's Joint Committee on Financial Services, the Fall 2014 Symposium focusing on business trends in the reinsurance industry, and the Winter 2015 Arbitrator's Roundtable focusing on arbitration consolidation.
While MReBA was only formed in January of 2009, it has been a great and growing success, particularly in promoting the education and collegiality of the reinsurance bar in Massachusetts and New England. There are many exciting events coming up this year, including the 7th Annual Fall Symposium on October 8, 2015, which will focus this year on the topic "Reshaping Reinsurance," and will look at the changes facing the reinsurance industry as it adjusts to the rise of insurance-linked securities, the challenges of cyber-risk, and innovations in the resolution of claim disputes. As we did last year, we again this year will be seeking CLE credits for use in New York and other states for those attending the symposium. In Winter 2016, we will be hosting our 5th Annual Arbitrator's Roundtable, a lively and educational discussion led by two seasoned arbitrators on a topic of the day.
In addition to these exciting featured events, MReBA will continue this coming year to have monthly meetings in Boston, which are open to all MReBA members to attend and will include the discussion of key trends and developments in the reinsurance business and law. MReBA also publishes an on-line newsletter on topics of general interest to our members and the reinsurance bar, and I encourage all members of MReBA and those interested in reinsurance issues to contribute articles for publication.
There is an exciting year ahead of us, and MReBA intends to continue to lead the discussion in Massachusetts on all matters related to reinsurance. I hope that you can join us in these efforts. Thanks very much!
